Avoid Simple Business Mistakes
Entrepreneurs create businesses because they possess a skill that can be maximized for profit. It can be at the prompting of families and friends or the frustration of trying to assimilate in the corporate environment, that they choose to leave their careers or schooling to pursue a business venture. Even with the drive to be their own boss, many of these individuals fail and return right back to the situation they were in, possessing the same skill, and still knowing how to maximize it. So what went wrong? There are many mistakes that entrepreneurs make when starting a business, and three important ones are highlighted below.
Businesses have been unsuccessful because the owner failed to do the proper research. Possessing a skill, creating a product, and having creative ideas, are only preliminary steps in creating a business. The important matter is learning everything there is to know about the business of interest. This entails researching like businesses to determine their deficiencies in meeting the needs of consumers and then creating your business to meet those needs. It further requires knowledge of the possible risks involved in creating the business and how other successful entrepreneurs managed to avoid or minimize these risks.
There are very few businesses that are one of a kind and the biggest mistake that a novice entrepreneur can make is not consulting or soliciting advice from someone who has or had a successful business of similar specialty. It is understandable that because you would be in competition with a like company, the owner would be hesitant and even resistant to share information. There is always someone who retired from the business, just recently sold a business, or who wrote a book about the business. Too often, up and coming entrepreneurs let pride get in the way of allowing them to heed to the advice of those who are business savvy, as if it would demean their creativity and ideas. There are many benefits, such as obtaining advanced marketing strategies and establishing relationships that could become beneficial when seeking investments, just to name a few. Going into a new business venture blind is setting you up for failure.
After making the decision to start a business it can be hard to stay focused because there are so many ideas and concepts that would be beneficial to the new pursuit. The mistake that can be and often times has been made is not having a sound business plan. This can lead to chaos and disorganization, and the establishment of a business that has no real direction. If you do not know where you are going, then you have no idea how to get there. A business plan allows you to develop specific goals and a means of measuring those goals; in other words a strategic vision. This allows all ideas and concepts to be implemented while remaining focused on the goal at hand.

I could not agree with this article more. It is so easy to pull yourself in so many different directions thinking of the hundreds if things you can get done with marketing and merchandising and many others instead of making a solid business plan and focusing in a few key items. Thanks so much for this.
A lot of people seem to just through a site up and they do not even do any kind of research to find out what keywords they need to use or what products they could sell. You need to map out a plan before you start a business online.
Great article, i agree with what has been said, ive seen a lot of people complain that their sites are not ranking in google etc and they havent even done any research into any sort of SEO
Good article…I am in the process of setting up a new business, and SEO is the crucial factor in the success (or failure!) of any business I have or have had.
Keep up the good work!
